Family Makes Local News with Their Unique Adoption Benefit
Waiting adoptive family Nick and Marcy were offered a very unique form of help from a local tattoo artist – a benefit where a tattoo was the reward for a donation to their adoption fund. Read about it in an article by St. Charles County Worlds.

Congratulations!
Director of Placement Services Elizabeth Ehlen, MSW LCSW welcomed a baby girl home just before Christmas. Everybody is doing very well, and Elizabeth is empathizing with all our new adoptive parents who are up at all hours of the night. She will be on maternity leave for the next couple of months, and as such the blog articles may be rather sporadic, as she is responsible for most of them. Rest assured she will be back in action soon, and more motivated than ever to help our adoptive families find their forever children!
Address Change
This is a long overdue update, but for everyone who may not yet know, A Gift of Hope Adoptions has moved to a new office location. The new address has been updated on the website, and we have redone our letterhead to reflect the change. If you get some of our old letterhead or other literature with the old address we apologize for the confusion! Our new addresses and phone numbers are below. Please note our birth parent line has not changed, but the office phone and fax number have. Thanks for helping us through this transition!

» In Memoriam
On Monday, September 9, 2007, Sally Winters passed away from complications related to kidney cancer. Sally Winters was the Director of Placement Services at A Gift of Hope Adoptions, and instrumental in starting the agency. Because of Sally, many children have found and thrived in wonderful, permanent homes. She worked very hard and was very knowledgeable about adoption and adoption related issues; in fact her knowledge contributed to much of the material on this site. Links below are her obituary in the Columbia Missourian, and her blog. Both have information on donations in lieu of flowers if you wish to contribute something in her memory.

A Gift of Hope Adoptions was mentioned by Vox Magazine, published in Columbia, MO, on 4/26/07
“The majority of birth mothers already have children at home, and that kind of aversion therapy could work for them, ” says Elizabeth Ehlen, an adoption counselor for the Columbia-based A Gift of Hope Adoptions agency. She calls the decision making process a cost-benefit analysis. “We want the women to come to their own conclusions,” she says, adding that she makes sure to to ask how the woman’s family might handle the situation of placing a child up for adoption. “It’s not just a woman losing a child; it’s a grandmother losing a grandchild.”
